Corrections Policy
Hawaii Medical Journal is committed to accuracy in all our reporting. Given the medical nature of our content, factual accuracy is not just an editorial standard — it is a patient safety imperative. When we make mistakes, we correct them promptly and transparently.
Our Commitment
Medical and health journalism carries a heightened responsibility for accuracy. Errors in reporting on treatments, drug interactions, public health data, or clinical recommendations could mislead patients or providers. We verify all clinical claims before publication, and when errors occur, we treat correction with the urgency the subject matter demands.
Types of Corrections
Corrections
Issued when we have published information that is factually inaccurate, including errors in medical data, drug names, dosages, study results, or other verifiable clinical facts.
Clarifications
Issued when original reporting was technically accurate but may have been unclear or missing important clinical context.
Editor's Notes
Added to provide additional context, disclose potential conflicts of interest, or note significant updates to developing health stories.
Retractions
In rare cases where the fundamental premise of a story is found to be false, we will issue a full retraction with explanation.
